Hurley Announces Team of the Season
Hurley Medical Center recognizes the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation teams for Team of the Season. They both recently achieved the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) certification, an honor 8 years in the making.
Cardiac Rehab Exercise Specialists Haley Rugenstein and McKennah Ross, along with Reimbursement Assistant Kaytlyn Roat, work with patients dealing with heart issues to help them gain strength and return to work and all activities that make life worth living. Qualifying diagnoses for Cardiac Rehab include heart attack, stent or angioplasty, CABG (open heart surgery), heart valve repair or replacement, heart transplant, stable angina, CHF w/ EF less than 35% or peripheral artery disease within the past year. Referrals can come from any physician. With a three phase approach, Hurley Cardiac Rehab can reduce a patient’s risk of having another heart attack by as much as 25%.
“This team consistently delivers BIG results. They bring energy, compassion, top notch clinical skills and joy to work each day,” says Cathy Metz, Service Line Administrator. “Caring for patients with challenging and chronic heart and lung conditions, this team creates a safe place for patients to learn how to manage and improve their health conditions. They have a magic I wish I could bottle.”
Cardiac Rehab shares a space with Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Respiratory Therapist Lori Moses helps those diagnosed with a lung disorder. There are many pulmonary diseases that qualify patients for Pulmonary Rehab including COPD, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer. The patient’s journey to a better quality of life, through Pulmonary Rehab, begins with a conversation with their physician. The program combines exercise, education, breathing retraining and psychologic social support.
“Lori is a great team player and creates great personal connections with her patients. She represents Hurley very well and keeps the program strong,” says Richard Barker, Director of Respiratory and Neurology Services. “Great job and congratulations to all of the staff in Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehab.”
Recognition of this Team of the Season is well deserved. They see two different groups of patients but work cohesively to do a great job supporting one another.
